LOCAL RULES

Gravel Paths

There are free drops from the gravel paths on hole 6, 10, 11,12, 13, 14, 18. Rule 25-1(b) applies.

Out of bounds

The following is out of bounds:

  • A ball played onto or over any motor road, except the motor road crossing the Long Hole fairway.
  • A ball played on to or over the horse ride on the right of Heather Hole

(Note: A ball coming to rest on any other roadway or path, apart from those indicated on the course planner, must be played as it lies.)

Horse Rides

A ball lying on a horse ride MUST be picked and dropped on a direct line between where the ball lay and the flag (Rule 33-8a refers) within two and four club lengths of the edge of the horse ride, not nearer the hole, without penalty.

On the Long Hole a ball lying on the horse ride MUST be picked and dropped within two and four club lengths of the ditch furthest from the horse ride crossing the fairway, without a penalty.

A ball lying within two club-lengths of a horse ride MAY be picked and dropped within two and four club lengths of the edge of the horse ride, not nearer the hole, without penalty.

On the horse ride to the left of Nest Hole, a ball lying on the horse ride MUST be lifted and dropped either side of the horse ride within two club lengths of the edge of the horse ride, not nearer the hole, without penalty.

A ball lying on the horse ride behind Caesar's Well green MUST be picked up and dropped within four club lengths of the edge of the horse ride; not nearer the hole and without penalty.

Distances are measured to the centre of the green.

On the course a requirement of the Conservators is that all players must wear a plain pillar-box red outer garment.  This is so that we can easily be seen by members of the public, who - if they have any sense - will then give us a wide berth.  The Rangers, who patrol the common, are empowered to stop people playing if they contravene this rule. Red garments and waterproofs can be hired from the club for a nominal fee. Visitors must wear golf shoes and proper golfing attire on the course - no jeans, tee shirts or tracksuits please.

Other users of the common must always be given right of way; we do not wish to risk endangering our insurance policy by playing shots which could endanger the public.

Full colour Course Planners can be bought from the Professional's Shop and Bar and are priced at £3 each.
