"Wimbledon Common is unlike so many other golf clubs in that we are extremely open and welcoming to golfers of all levels. You can learn your golf here with help from so many resources, or you can hone your single figure handicap and help the teams win various club competitions. We welcome everyone, social golfers, competitive golfers, young or old, so if you wanted to try golf but were always put off by the stuffiness of it all, come to Wimbledon Common Golf Club, you’ll be welcomed with open arms.
Playing golf on the Common brings a lot of unique things into play. It’s a tight course, so don’t be fooled by the length, and the greens are amongst the best in Surrey. We’ve also got a world class putting coach as our resident club Professional too, so if you want to have lessons or improve your putting, this is the club for you!
Both Liz (this year's Lady Captain) and I plan to work together to make sure all members and visitors enjoy their golf on the Common this year. We have also jointly chosen Young Minds as our charity for the year. They are committed to improving children's wellbeing by offering advice & support for parents and young people affected by mental health issues.
Enjoy your golf, I hope to see you on the course or in the clubhouse soon!"

"I became a member of Wimbledon Common on 1st April 2005, 15 years ago, when ladies were first invited to join and it has been really exciting to see the growth and success of our Ladies Section in the intervening years. My aim over the next 12 months is to retain existing members, attract new members, and to continue to build on this success by encouraging everyone, whatever their ability, to play on the Common, improve their golf and enjoy their game. There is also plenty of opportunity for those who enjoy a competition or two both internally and externally. We have a full programme of Ladies and Mixed Club Competitions and everyone is encouraged to participate. We play friendly matches against other Surrey Clubs and participate in several of the SCLGA sponsored competitions, eg. Wallis and Pearson.
As a section, we organise a wide range of social activities including regular roll-ups on Wednesday and Friday mornings with some fun competitions thrown in. Once a month, we organise a roll-up on a Saturday morning for all our business ladies.
Another important aspect of our Club life is our Bridge section, ably led by Maggie Harris and Jane Bailey, with friendly bridge on Monday afternoons, a series of friendly matches against other Clubs over the Winter months, and a couple of golf + bridge matches in the Summer.
This year, John Kendall, our Men’s Captain, and I have chosen to raise money for Young Minds. They are committed to improving children's wellbeing and mental health and to offer advice & support for parents and young people affected by mental health issues.
I would like to thank Jackie Reiss for agreeing to be my Vice Captain and am looking forward to working with her over the coming year to retain the growth and success of our section and the Club overall.
I look forward to spending time on and off the course with friends, old and new, and wish you all a great golfing year."
