2023 - 2024: Men's Captain

I very much look forward to greeting and playing with new and existing members throughout the next 12 months. Hopefully, we can have some fun, hole a few long putts on our finely maintained greens and enjoy a refreshing brew afterwards.

- Robert Frew, Men's Captain -

I joined Wimbledon Common Golf Club six years ago, having played nomadic golf for several years. Having been tapped on the shoulder over a year ago, I am incredibly honoured and proud to have been elected Captain of this fantastic club.

Our membership comes from an enormously diverse background of bankers and builders, councillors and counsellors, posties and producers, every manner of occupation with handicaps to match across all levels from low single figures to...well, more!

We have an excellent resident PGA Professional, ever-present for tuition or just friendly advice, an academy for beginners and a fully functioning office administration, looking after the club as a whole, the clubhouse itself and a hugely busy schedule of competitions and matches in which all members are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Members’ views are represented on the Management and Golf Committees, ensuring their voices and interests are always heard. Friendly order and efficiency prevail.

See you out on the course or in the bar.
Robert Frew

2023 - 2024: Lady Captain

I look forward to working with my Ladies’ Vice Captain, Pam Jennings through the coming year, to continue our excellent progress.

- Jackie Reiss, Lady Captain -

I joined the Club in 2015 via its Academy programme, converting to full membership the following year. Having played ‘holiday golf’ on and off for a few years, I found the Academy provided a great basis to develop confidence and skills to then be able to enjoy our lovely woodland course. And the course is indeed a joy –not the easiest of courses as it is quite narrow in parts – but lovely in every season.

The club is friendly and unstuffy; we welcome new members and, if needed, give them the opportunity to get handicaps quickly and join in with competitive and social golf as soon as they are ready. The Ladies’ Section is vibrant and fully integrated into the club, and we have many mixed competitions and events, as well as our varied ladies’ golf and social programme, including an annual golf tour. There is plenty of opportunity for members to play competitively or sociably and continuing to develop our match squads for Surrey events, such as the Pearson and Wallis trophies.

The Men’s Captain Robert Frew and I are proud to support local charity Dons Local Action Group (DLAG) as our Captains’ Charity. This will be our second year of supporting the charity – last year we raised over £12,000.

I look forward to working with my Ladies’ Vice Captain, Pam Jennings through the coming year, to continue our excellent progress.
