As men’s captain of WCGC, I am privileged to play on a beautiful course with interestingly varied holes. The trees provide a stunning backdrop to a course that is not long, but challenging for good golfers as well as excellent for those new to the game. Three new tees have been provided to overcome the problems experienced by those who do not have the length to carry the ravines.
The course is remarkably resilient, remaining open when many are closed and this is due in no small measure to our greenkeepers who go above and beyond to keep the course playable in bad weather.
Competitive matches are held most weekends and the club enters local and national competitions. Social rollup groups play during the week and you are sure to find partners and opponents which suit your ability.
The seniors have a vibrant membership and during the year there are many weekday internal competitions and matches against other clubs.
The clubhouse often enjoys a convivial atmosphere but, equally often, provides a haven for a quiet drink.

I joined the Club in 2023 having relatively recently started playing golf in 2019 while working abroad. Living in London, I was attracted to Wimbledon Common golf club because of its beautiful Woodland course and its easy accessibility. I love that our course changes with the season and always provides a fun challenge with some narrow fairways and a couple of ravines.
I would describe our club as very friendly and inclusive. Women are made to feel very welcome and indeed make up 30% of the club's membership. Our Ladies section is vibrant with internal, regional (Surrey) and national Ladies competitions, friendly matches (some of which combine bridge and golf) and an annual Ladies golf tour. We also have mixed golf competitions and plenty of social events. The club provides an Academy programme for players who are new to golf or simply want to build their confidence and skills.
An important focus for our club is also the fundraising we do for charity and this year the Men's Captain and I have chosen to support Alzheimer's Research UK, whose vision is a world free from the fear, harm and heartbreak of dementia.
As the Lady Captain, I'm delighted to be supported by my Ladies committee and by my Lady Vice Captain, Judy Horsford. We are always available should anyone have questions or feedback.
I look forward to my busy year ahead.
