Ladies from Wimbledon Common Golf Club won the Mary Forster Bowl on Sunday, 22nd April 2018, over 24 teams from public golf courses across the United Kingdom.
This was only the second time the club had entered the event. The club had one team in the final last year as well. Following the regional rounds which are played as a league, WCGC ladies had two teams through to the final, with one team in first place and the second team in joint second place.
The WCGC Green team of Glencora Senior, Madge Corbitt, and Virginia Marin together scored 106 Stableford points on the day--19 points ahead of the second placed team. The Red team of Jo Elder, Jane Britton and Ann Tibbatts finished in fifth place overall but just 3 points behind the runners up.
Jane Britton, Lady Captain said: "This is a terrific result for the club and our players but we also owe tremendous thanks to our team of 5 caddies--4 from the men's section and one lady--who took the time to travel to Cherwell Edge Golf Club in Oxfordshire to assist the two teams. They gave up a day of their time to caddy for the ladies and there was a great atmosphere as we waited to see the Green team presented with the beautiful glass Rose Bowl."
The Mary Forster Bowl is organised by NAPGC (The National Association of Public and Proprietary Clubs).
